Figure below is a high-level diagram of data communications
between two computer devices. We shall expand this basic schematic further. The
most familiar type of communications is probably the case in which device 1 is a
PC and device 2 is a server of some
type. The transmission line may be nothing more complex than a pair of twisted
wires from the terminal leading to a central computer than offers time-sharing
services. Figure below describes the process.
